Former professional goalkeeper Chris Williams joined City’s coaching staff in February 2014.
The ex-Bolton Wanderers shot-stopper became part of Nick Cushing’s backroom team ahead of our maiden season in the FA Women’s Super League.
Working with England star Karen Bardsley and City Ladies stalwart Andie Worrall, Williams aided a fifth-place finish in the league and maiden trophy success in the Continental Cup.
During the 2019 Women’s World Cup, Bardsley credited Williams for his part in transforming her own game to adapt to the modern, ball-playing style goalkeepers are becoming accustomed to.
The UEFA A-Licence coach has also played a key role in developing youngster Ellie Roebuck into one of the world’s most exciting young ‘keepers with the Sheffield-born shot-stopper having won the 2019/20 FA WSL Golden Glove and earned a nomination for TheBest FIFA Goalkeeper at the end of 2020.
Williams also guided City to an astonishing record of clean sheets in our unbeaten league success in 2016, as Cushing’s side conceded just four goals all season - and only one from open play.
Since then, the Club have won three FA Cups, three more Continental Cups (including a penalty shoot-out victory over Arsenal in which Bardsley saved two spot-kicks) and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in our first two attempts.
