TEAM NEWS
Julian Alvarez starts as City make five changes for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to FC Copenhagen.
The Argentine striker will lead the City line in the Danish capital with Erling Haaland reverting to the bench.
Goals from Joao Cancelo, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Erling Haaland maintained City’s unbeaten start to the 2022/23 campaign with an emphatic 4-0 win over Southampton.
Victory moved Pep Guardiola‘s men top of the Premier League for at least 24 hours, with Cancelo opening the scoring at the Etihad with an impressive solo effort on 20 minutes.
Foden doubled the advantage with an immaculate dinked finish over former City stopper Gavin Bazunu, with a third following soon after the break when Mahrez lashed home on the volley.
And a dominant display was complete with 25 to play when Haaland rifled home from Cancelo’s cutback for his 15th Premier League goal of the season.
Meanwhile, a stoppage time equaliser denied our opponents victory at home to FC Nordsjaelland in their most recent outing.
Previous meeting
City maintained our 100% start to Champions League Group G with a dominant 5-0 triumph over our opponents.
An early brace from Erling Haaland set the tone at the Etihad Stadium, with a David Khocholava own goal handing us a three-goal advantage at the break.
A Riyad Mahrez penalty and close-range Julian Alvarez strike rounded off the scoring in the second half.
Form Guide
City remain unbeaten in all competitions heading into our latest clash, winning each of our last six matches.
Should Pep Guardiola‘s men avoid defeat once again in the Danish capital, then only a Sevilla victory against Borussia Dortmund will stall our progress to the knockout stages.
A victory at Parken Stadium, however, guarantees us a spot in the next round.
FC Copenhagen’s defence of the Danish Superliga title has got off to a slow start by their usual standards, with the Lions currently sitting sixth in the table after 12 matches.
However, they are unbeaten in their last three games on home soil in all competitions.
